Stran Smith is a 2008 World Champion Calf Roper and has been a member of the PRCA since 1994.  He is  currently credited with over a million and a half career earnings. 

Stran is married to Jennifer (Douglas), who works as TV reporter for PRCA broadcasts.  Together they have two sons: Stone and Scout.  In April 2003, a heart defect caused Smith to suffer a mild stroke.  He underwent a procedure to correct the atrial septal defect a month later and returned to competition in July at the Snake River Stampede in Nampa, Idaho.  After this life-changing event, Stran appeared on the cover of the January/February 2007 issue of Stroke Smart.  However, he is no stranger to magazine appearances, having graced the cover of European GQ Magazine in April 2006.

He is a member of the Cactus Team and currently endorses both the 3-strand Double S Calf Rope and the 4-strand Destiny 4 “Stran” Calf Rope.  Both products belong to Stran’s Double S rope and accessory line by Cactus.  The Destiny derived its name from his primary competition horse, Destiny. 

Stran has been writing “Down the Line” since 2005.  “Down the Line” is published in a number of industry publications, including Loops Magazine, Roper’s Sports News, Arizona Jackpot, The Rodeo News, and The Roping Pen.
