A mere glance at the tail of a Cactus rope will quickly tell whether it’s a head or heel rope and even what lay it is!
Most ropes have a band at the tail of the rope with this information on it, and Cactus has improved theirs by adding color coded bands indicating the lay of the rope. Plus, the position of the color band indicates whether it’s a head or heel rope.

The #1 Super Soft is the softest rope we make. This rope has the most tip weight of any rope on the market. This is the rope we like to see novice ropers start with because it is so easy to swing. Also used by some top-notch ropers who like a soft rope with lots of body.
The #1 Medium Soft heel rope is a 35’ version of our #4 head rope. It was made popular by ropers who don’t use a lot of power in their delivery. This is a great rope for novice heelers to start out using.

The #2 Extra Soft is our most popular rope. It’s used by the novice up to the professional roper. This rope works great on all types of cattle. The #2 Extra Soft has traditionally been the softest rope, but we developed the #1 SS for ropers that liked an even softer rope.
The #2 Medium is our most popular heel rope. It can be used with a wide variety of roping styles. It has enough tip weight for easy swinging, but also enough stiffness to stand up when thrown in front of the feet.

The #3 Soft is our second most popular head rope. It is mostly used by ropers with experience and more rope handling ability. It has enough stiffness that it can be swung harder and thrown harder than the #1 and #2 ropes without the loop closing.
The #3 Hard Medium rope was designed for the ropers that thought the Heel #2 was too soft and the Heel #4 was too hard. This rope takes more skill to swing and place than the #2. It is designed more for advanced heelers.

The #4 Medium Soft rope is used only by the most experienced headers. Because of its stiffness, this rope requires more skill to deliver. It has enough body to use as a softer heel rope.
The #4 Medium Hard rope has enough stiffness to stay open and catch. Even with this much stiffness, this rope has the body to keep it from being wiry or bouncy. This rope is used mostly by top-notch heelers.
