The entire rope making process is positively quality controlled with a careful eye from beginning to end. Each rope is individually spun using only the best nylon and poly fibers available. We make each rope one at a time using exact specifications to ensure quality and consistency.
After the ropes are spun, they are dipped in hot wax to give them extra body and a firmer feel.
Once the wax has been absorbed, the Hondas are hand tied and the ropes are stretched to make sure they are straight and will swing true.
After this process, rawhide burners are sewn on to each hondo by hand. Before the ropes are finished, our trademark yellow plastic labels are shrink wrapped on the end of each rope describing the lay, twist and length. An end knot is then tied.
All of our ropes are hand coiled, then powdered and placed on their designated racks. We operate on a “First In – First Out” basis which gives each of our ropes an appropriate amount of time to settle and achieve that “just right” feel before shipment to customers.
It takes about three days for a rope to be completed and we can make up to 550 ropes a day.

Honda – the eye of the rope. All of our ropes are hand tied by the same person day after day to ensure consistency.
Burner – the rawhide piece sewn on the end of each Honda. All Cactus Ropes have a rawhide burner which allows the rope to slide faster and protects the inside of the hondo.
Lay – the stiffness of the rope. The different lays range from extra-extra-soft, extra-soft, soft, medium-soft, medium-hard and hard medium. Poly ropes do not come in lays.
Length – head ropes are 30' long, heel ropes are 35' long and calf ropes are 28'-30' long. Longer ropes can be special ordered. Call us and we can make ropes to fit your specific needs.
Right Handed versus Left Handed Ropes – Is there a difference? Yes. Right-handed ropes are twisted and tied to the right and left-handed ropes are twisted and tied to the left. We carry both, but please specify if you want left-handed ropes.
